What can I do?

We can often feel overwhelmed by the needs of unreached people groups. So, you might be asking yourself, "what can I realistically do to make an impact on the unreached?” Well, there are five ways you can make a real difference.

First, pray like someone's life depended on it. Jesus commanded us to pray for more labourers to go into the harvest. Currently only 3% of missionaries are serving among unreached people groups. Pray that God would burden His people to go. I pray constantly for new labourers, join me in praying for a new generation of gospel servants. Also pray for opportunities to share the gospel in new areas. In the New Testament, Paul prays for opportunities, and God opened doors. We should pray for more and more openness to the gospel among the unreached and the countries they live in.

Second, give sacrificially to what God is doing. God is at work, and all of us can participate by stewarding our finances with an eternal perspective. Currently, only 1% of missions giving is going to unreached people groups, but we can change that. By giving faithfully, we are participating in a very real way. Though we may not by a physical member of a church planting team with boots on the ground, we are crucial member of the team. Sending is equally important as going, and in both cases God looks at the heart motives. We go because of His grace, and we give because of His grace!

Third, mobilize the next generation of gospel servants. Though prayer is important, we should not stop there. We should be revealing the needs of the unreached to young people and inviting them to consider serving God among the unreached. Every generation is responsible for the unreached people living within their generation, and it is our responsibility to disciple this generation to be willing to serve Him and serve the unreached.

Fourth, welcome the unreached when they move next door. We live in a day in age with lots of movement across boarders. Therefore, there are times in which we are literally neighbours with those who would not have an opportunity to hear the gospel in their previous country. We can serve them and serve God by being good neighbours, welcoming them, and sharing Christ with them right here in our own communities.

Fifth, go to an unreached people group and serve them. Maybe God really does want you involved. Have you ever truly prayed about it? Now is your chance to consider and pray about whether He really does want you to leave your earthly home so that others can have a heavenly one. Yes, it will require sacrifice, but can you think of a more meaningful investment of your life?

Only God knows what blend of these five things He wants you to be involved in. He will make it clear as you pray and seek Him. What we do know for sure is that He is at work in the world, and He invites us to participate with Him.
